Photo Opportunity

When Savvy woke up this morning she came into our room, crawled into bed next to me and said: "Let's go to Disneyland!" So that is exactly what we did. I can't think of a better way to spend our Monday, can you? Most of you saw my Instagram post with us and these big guys, but what you didn't see what the 4,283 shots it took to get just one good one. Here are a few good tries below...

Black + White

One of the bloggers I follow recently posed the question: "what inspires you as a blogger?" It really got me thinking...up until the last year or so I never really considered myself a creative person. Then I realized, since starting the blog I have become increasingly more intentional about surrounding myself with the things that truly inspire me. I follow all different types of blogs, listen to new music, follow interesting people on Instagram, read, and experience new food/places as much as possible. All of these factors contribute to my creativity and finding joy in what I do. Because at the end of the day, why create if it doest inspire you (and others) and bring you happiness in some way?

So now I wanted to ask you the same question, how do you stay inspired? What do you do to express creativity in your own life? I'd love to hear from you, so get at me!

Camera Roll

Today's post is literally just a few photo's from my cameral roll that were taken while Hudson and I picked up our groceries today. The only thing I have to say is that this boy is the sweetest, most helpful gangster of love there is.

Oh, and it's FRIYAY. (We made it!)
[...then home for a little play time before we head back and pick up Savvy.]

Zoey Girl's Birthday

Not only is today #nationaldogday, it also happens to be Zoey girl's birthday! It's crazy to think back to the day we got her (hello 2008!) and all the funny/naughty things she did to my shoes, furniture and apartment. Chewing issues aside, she has been the best friend a girl could ask for, and I'm so lucky to call her mine. I mean ours. Oops! (*wink.)

Taco Tuesday. Kinda.

Today I came across a book titled "Thug Kitchen" while looking for a gift in the book aisle at Target. While flipping through the pages I landed on a quote that read: "start every damn day like it was taco Tuesday" which had me A) cracking up, and B) dreaming of tacos. Since I'm always looking for new ways to make my favorite dinners a little more healthy, I decided to make one of those "stacked bowls" you see all over Instagram. It's basically a decomposed version of whatever dish you were going to prepare. Our consisted of a little bit of rice, black beans, garbanzo beans, avocado, cilantro, tomatoes, and "zoodles" (zucchini spiralized into noodles). I added fresh lemon juice and salt and pepper to taste.

In other news Hudson decided this was the week he was ready to give the whole potty training thing a go. I'm glad he has such a strong resolve because I definitely wasn't so sure. Seven cute pairs of little CARS themed undies later and I'm all in.
[Life is good in big boy undies.]
[He is literally always on the run.]

Base Layer

As we transition towards Fall I have been giving some thought to what items I would like to add to my closet for the upcoming months. For me, it's dresses. I live for a good dress that I can style up or down, and fee comfortable in regardless of the weather. It's the perfect base layer for countless style combinations. Dresses are key in my closet and this one by Free People is no exception. I am literally obsessed with how light and breezy the material is, and I love the boho print.

Here I've styled it with sandals, layered necklaces, and stacks of bracelets. But as soon as it starts to cool off I can see it with knee high boots and a thin cardigan. I also grabbed this dress because the color pallet works year round. Its cool blues could feel appropriate for a rainy day, or the middle of summer. Tell me, what's on your list for Fall? Are you a jeans and white tee kind of girl, or do you find yourself leaning towards dresses like me? I'd love to hear from you! Leave your comment in the space below or hit me up over on Insty.

Freshly Picked

I've really made it my mission as a stay at home mama to find the absolute best deals out there. It's no secret I love fashion, and styles for the babes are no exception. However, getting Freshly Picked moccasins at full price just isn't something we can do right now. But when FP announced an insane flash sale to their followers on Instagram I took full advantage, and regular shoes just aren't going to cut it from here on out.

So no pressure, but if you feel like you are stuck and unable to figure things out on your own, enlisting a health and wellness coach can really push you in a positive new direction. And bonus! I happen to know a girl...*wink.

Getting Organized | Three Steps.

First off, let me clarify: I am totally wearing pants here. Well, shorts. But this side slit tunic (especially when sitting) looks all kinds of scandalous. Now that we've cleared that up I wanted to take a minute and share the top three ways I have gotten myself more organized over the last couple of weeks. Maybe it was the back to school vibe in the air, or maybe I just got fed up with feeling just one step behind all the time, whatever it was I decided I was ready to do something about it. So here's what I did:

1. I made a list. The first step is admitting you have a problem. So many little things were falling through the cracks. I'd forget to pick up our dry cleaning when it was ready, or I wouldn't have the red pepper that I needed for our dinner one night. Individually these things aren't a big deal, but when a couple string together each day you can start to feel a little out of control. Writing out a list of the things I wanted to change was the starting point for me. It could be as simple as a to-do list for each day, or meal planning at the start of the week, or keeping your desk organized by clearing it off daily.

2. You guessed it. I got a planner. I've mentioned this in a previous post, but I can't stress enough how important it is to keep all of your dates/notes/reminders organized and in one place. For me, it was a matter of having a clear (and attractive looking) visual guide that I could write on and glance at all at once.

3. I asked for help. One of the bullet points on my list was something I didn't really know how to tackle myself. I had no experience with it, and to be honest I didn't really know where to start. So I asked. I talked with someone who suggested a plan, and walked me through each step as they would have done it. I know it seems obvious to reach out for guidance, but too often we are embarrassed or worried about looking dumb. The bottom line is, you won't know until you ask!

Sunday Spiel

Sunday nights are usually pretty chill, we typically try and get the babes in bed a little early so they can catch up on some sleep after a long and busy weekend, and so that we can have a little down time too. Per usual we spent most of the weekend working on and around the house. (Surprise, surprise, I know.) The good news is we have made some major improvements in the functionality and organization of our small-ish house, the bad news is it seems like another weekend has flown by without us getting to take full advantage of it. Does this happen to you too? How do you make time for fun when your to-do list is mad dogging you?

As you can see above I've finally brought the bar cart back in action. I'm so glad we had room for it again after...wait for it, rearranging the furniture. (Because we neevvver do that!) But all kidding aside, I think I'm fully settled on this set-up/look.

Finally, have you been to Abercrombie and Fitch lately? I know what you're thinking, but this is not the popped-collar, low rise A&F of way back when (although they still have plenty of low rise...) Abercrombie grew up, went to Cochella for some boho inspiration and came back with a more grown up look. I went in on a whim today while shopping at South Coast Plaza, and I'm so glad I did. This could seriously be a regular thing for me now that I know what I've been missing out on. Plus there is something so nostalgic about the smell of that place. Good times, good times. If you're still skeptical, check out the women's fall preview. So many looks/pieces I have my eye on for Fall. I made off with this a line skirt, but I would add any one of these to my closet in a hot minute.

Guess who's photo was featured over on the Thimblepress Instagram today? You guessed it! I was beyond thrilled that they selected my image to feature, and feel so grateful for the exposure it provided for the blog today. If you aren't familiar with Thimblepress you can check it out here, and as if that's not lovely enough, check out the collaboration they did with The Glitter Guide, here. I mean...(emoji heart eyes.)

Shine Bright

I had to make a last minute Nordstrom run to get Savannah some new shoes for her first day of pre-k, because as it turns out gold gladiator sandals aren't appropriate school attire. (Who knew?!) I ended up finding these hot pink Natives on sale, and while I was there I thought I would grab a quick note to slip into her lunch in the adjacent home department. It's a tradition we have for the first day of school, and one I hope to keep.

While searching for the perfect card I found this adorable balloon which immediately struck me as a good mantra for the coming school year. I mentioned in a recent post how this year wasn't set up the way I had originally planned, but trusting in God...and knowing my girl, she will shine bright no matter where she is.

It's now one day out and I'm happy to report that Savannah both came in and went out happily from her new class. She loves her teacher and made two sweet new little friends. Hudson on the other hand wasn't as happy, he was just getting used to having Sissy all to himself. He kept asking for her over and over throughout the day. So I did what any other self respecting mama would do, I took him directly to Ikea for a dollar ice cream cone at 10 a.m.

Savvy's School Gear

Out of all the shopping, back to school shopping is by far my favorite. I'm assuming this will be the last year I have any say whatsoever over the type of backpack/clothes/shoes Savvy will wear, which means I got a little carried away. It's hard to tell in the photo above, but the bottom of this Herschel backpack is leopard print. I mean, chambray polka dots and leopard?! I can't. Plus it's mini-sized which makes everything 57% more adorable. (I've done the math.)

*Mini size, like Savvy's, is in store only.

Back To School

I don't want to get all serious on you guys, but the days of summer are numbered. Preschool officially starts next week, and after a day at orientation it's feeling all too real. Raise your hand if you aren't ready for summer to end...that's what I thought.

On the upside I'm really looking forward to Savvy's year in pre-k. It's funny how things work out, because if you would have asked me earlier today I would have had a completely different feeling towards the coming year. I so desperately want to guide (also know as control) the little environment she lives in, and carve out the path I think is best. But at the end of the day God's plan is good. So good. He knows the right path for her, and I trust in that wholeheartedly. Plus, this just fits in with my master plan to give her love, nurturing, and just enough dysfunction to make her funny!

"So trust in the Lord (commit yourself to Him, lean on Him, hope confidently in Him) forever; for the Lord God is an everlasting Rock." - Isaiah 26:4.
