Baby Bag 2.0

It's a big day for the Taylor crew, we are officially baby bag free. Well, kinda. This actually took place a few weeks back, but I wanted to complete a trial run before bringing it to you. I'm happy to announce it was a major success, and here's why...

As Hudson is becoming more of a toddler and less a baby (*tear) I started to realize I was completely overpacking. I was dragging around my huge Petunia Picklebottom bag with things I wasn't using on a regular basis. Sure, it was reassuring to think, if all hell broke loose I would have whatever it took to clean up or fix the issue. But at the end of the day I want to lighten my load and figure out what works best for me at each stage. So for this stage I've found that a toddler backpack fits just enough (re: wipes, a few diapers, snacks, etc). It also doesn't hurt that it's the cutest little boy bag of all time.

Did you make this transition with your babes? Are you at that point where you feel like the switch to something a little smaller is on the horizon? Let's chat. Leave your comment below or hit me up on my Insty

Explore

Exploring new places is something I've recently found myself really gravitating towards, and Sunday definitely scratched that itch. One of the things I really admire about Cory is his sense of adventure. We could be fifteen or five hundred miles from here and Cory will find the excitment in it all. This time we ended up at the 4th Street Market in Down Town Santa Ana (DTSA) and had a relaxing morning of lattes and tasting new (and amazing) food.

Hooray At Home

Welcome back. The title of this post is also going to be the official hashtag (what's a project without a hashtag anyway?) of my slow reveal of all things home. As I've mentioned before, our house is still a work in progress...so for now it will be snapshots here and there of new purchases and projects. I really hope you enjoy!

Speaking of new purchases, I recently found this cool and colorful rug which I think makes the perfect addition to our living room. For a girl who was anti-rug for quite a while, I now feel ready to bring back this grounding element to our space. Plus, there is no arguing the instant style vibe a rug lends to any room. My anti-rug tendencies were all based on upkeep. A handwoven option like this one is really nice because you can literally roll it up and shake it out or throw it in the washing machine if need be. I think I'm in love.

The Overall Vibe

This is the look I pulled together for my girlfriend's baby shower on Saturday. It was a sweet celebration of her soon to be baby boy, and I couldn't have been happier to share in that day with her. It may or may not have given me a slight touch of baby fever. Before any of that takes root, let's talk about these overalls. I'm feeling them in big way, and love coming up with new ways to style them. This casual rocker vibe is definitely at the top of my list.

DIY Art | Savvy's Room

This was such a fun project for me! I was in need of some new (and large scale) art for Savvy's room. I didn't want to break the bank (again, I like changing things up quite a bit so no one item can ever be too valuable) but wanted something that was unique, stylish and special. After consulting my trusty Pinterest boards and hitting up Michaels, I decided to try my hand at painting. (After-all, the canvas was on sale for over 50% off.) I already knew the look I wanted to go for as well as the color scheme, so getting started was fairly simple.

First I took a roll of washi tape and sectioned off the canvas. This took a couple of tries to get the spacing right. From there I started with one color and did a spot (sometimes two) in each row and column. I made sure to space them out randomly and far apart from one another in this single color. I repeated this step with each color until each square of my washi tape grid was full. I tried to create texture and white space with each circle I painted. More paint here, less there...

I'm extremely pleased with the end result especially considering the whole project cost just under twenty dollars. (NOTE: these colors are translating poorly on camera, in real life it matches her scheme perfectly.)

Martha Stewart craft paint in satin.
Colors used: Arrowhead | Brushed bronze (metallic) | Wet cement | Camellia pink | Poodle skirt.

Color Blocking

If you're new to the color blocking world, try this fail-safe combo for a really chic look. Top and bottom (blouse and shoes) in one color, and skirt in another. I like to choose colors on separate ends of the color wheel, like rust and pale blue. Another important aspect to consider is texture. The crochet or lace detail of my top, along with the ruffled sleeves add interest to a no pattern look. The fringe on my shoes also plays up otherwise plain booties.

Be sure to tag me if you try out a color block look this week, I'd love to see what you came up with.

Bows on Bows

It's like Valentine's day all over again! How sweet is this little boy bow tie? Our favorite Etsy shop, Genuinely Made just launched a bow tie line and we are pretty excited about it. So now, in addition to  the best leather hair bows, we can stock up on these instant outfit makers for boys too. Oh, and they clip right on to the collar for a really simple and sturdy attachment. Hudson didn't mess with it at all

If you find yourself wondering what to wear this weekend, try this polished look. Sleek bun, LBD & detailed heels. It's a seriously winning combo and perfect for Valentines day. We all know how I feel about this blush color, so bonus points if you can work it into your outfit as well.
