Date Look

Hi, and welcome back! If you are looking for something to wear the next time you go out, look no further. I kind of feel like I nailed this date look thanks to this beautiful geometric top and high waisted skinny jeans. Something about skin tight denim screams, "take me out," and I'm not talking "to the ballgame." Mama's dressed for dinner and drinks. Might as well make it two, I didn't paint these jeans on for the fun of it.

MAC Mini Must Haves

MAC Cosmetics has always been a holy grail brand for me. The makeup is amazing, but what you may not know is just how good the skincare line is too. I know you don't typically think of great skincare when you think of a cosmetics line, but this is the real deal. I've tried tons of different brands and products over the years, and I always find my way back to MAC. See what I did there? The essential oil is new to MAC, and to my routine. I definitely see the difference when I use it under my moisturizer, or when I add a drop to my full coverage foundation. Below is a quick rundown of why I love each product, and what it does for me.
Strobe Cream: A moisturizer that has a pearlescent finish that makes the skin look dewey by reflecting light. A fun alternative to regular moisturizer when you need a little extra glow.

Fix +: Can be used to set your makeup and refresh/moisturize your skin. You can also spray it on your brush to make powder products more pigmented. (Think: eyeshadow)

Studio Moisture Cream: My go to day/night moisturizer. Not too heavy, great scent, very hydrating.

Essential Oil: Mentioned above, it locks in moisture and brightens skin.

Little Life

As we get closer and closer to November I can't help but think of how fast this year has gone by. Beeeeelieve me when I say I am not rushing Hudson's first birthday. (Although party planning is definitely in full swing.) Rather, I want to take a minute to document all the crazy and wonderful things his little life has brought. Before Hudson, our family felt somewhat incomplete. Luckily for us we were blessed with this handsome, funny, somewhat quiet, and extrememly easygoing boy. He makes us laugh, miss a few hours sleep here and there, and want to be better people. I want Hudson to know and see Jesus through me. Seriously tall order, I know...

I'm not going to lie, it's been a rough year for many reason, but adding Hudson to the mix has brought so much light to any gray days. We love you Hudson Boy!

Farm Fresh

This weather is totally playing with my emotions. For those days when you just aren't sure what to wear, a breezy long sleeve/short romper is the perfect look. Pair it with booties...well, because I have been styling everything with booties lately. But seriously, it's season appropriate yet cool enough to feel comfortable when it's still ninety out. The Fall color pallet and moody floral print doesn't hurt either.

Hey, how do you guys feel about my new sunnies? I had to say so long to my last pair after Hudson lovingly bent them in two. Tear. At that moment I made a pact with myself to only buy inexpensive pairs until he's a little older. Or until his fascination with anything dainty and breakable passes. Whichever comes first.

Lucky Number 7

Today marks seven years since we said I do! Hard to believe, but when I look back at the picture on the left I see a bride and groom excited and prepared to start a life together as one. And on the right, two kids who were practically giddy about the adventure ahead. Seven years later I can tell you with certainty...that we knew nothing. We knew nothing about how hard marriage could be for two people who love each other so much. We knew nothing of about the curveballs life could throw.

But don't worry, I am here to tell you it's worth the fight. And the fighting. It's all worth it. Because in the end (or at least seven years deep) I know what matters most in life is who you share it with. And there is no one I would rather share my life with than you, Cory Taylor. Thank you for loving me, and for always being that excited groom at heart.

Shake It Off

Maybe I'll blame my favorite show Nashville. Who knew Hayden Penettiere could sing? Or maybe I'll pin it on my love for Taylor Swift's new song 'Shake It Off.' Either way, I am all about that country life. It's funny how when inspiration strikes, it often influences your personal style as well. Now if I could just figure out how T. Swift gets those perfect curls...

Endless Summer?

I don't want to get anyone's hopes up (and by "anyone" I am mostly referring to myself) but I think we may have seen the last of our scorching hot triple digits days. I for one feel more than ready to pack up these swimsuits, bust out our boots, and grab a pumpkin spice latte. Wishful thinking? Maybe. But it's definitely on the horizon, and that deserves a pumpkin something. Possibly over ice for now...

Have a great weekend!

As If

Why did I wait this long to wear a backpack? It's basically a purse, statement piece, and baby bag all in one. Genius. As much as I love 90's fashion (I'm really falling hard for those floral Dr Martens) I feel like the backpack is a great jumping off point. If you find yourself on the fence about practically raiding Cher Horowitz closet, start with this. And if you don't know who I am talking about or why this post is titled "as if" we seriously need to talk.

On a completely unrelated note, I wanted to talk to you for a minute about the blog. Thank you so much for coming along on this awesome ride with me thus far. I'm still finding my way in this bloggy blog world and to be honest, I kind of love it. Having said that, I want to keep bringing fresh content that you want to see more of. My life (which looks a lot like my blog) is unequal parts family, fashion, and freakin' chaos. I'm not complaining, just the opposite actually. (Insert heart eyes emoji, wink face, and thumbs up emoji here) So tell me, are there any aspects you'd like to see more of? The babes and fashion are clearly here to stay, but would more home decor or beauty posts interest you? Weigh in...I'd really love to hear from you.

Emerald Accents

Black and white is clean, classic and the perfect backdrop for some really fun accessories. Bright jewel tones like the emerald ones I show here are the perfect touch for transitioning towards fall. As much as I'd love to keep talking about fall and fashion, I've got the latest episode of Sons of Anarchy recorded and a bowl of popcorn calling my name. Don't judge me...the popcorn is butter free.

Pineapple Express

Sometimes it's the small, unexpected pieces that have the biggest impact. I found this little guy while browsing the sale section at Homegoods, and knew it had to be mine. It's funny, because I probably wouldn't normally be drawn to something like this, but for whatever reason it brings me so much joy.  Do items ever strike you the way this pineapple did for me? I'd love to hear from you! Who knows, maybe I'll find my new favorite...

As I mentioned above, I was lucky enough to find mine for under twenty dollars at Homegoods. But if you want one, it's the Bermuda Pineapple from Lulu & Georgia.

Remix

Welcome back! The outfit I am wearing is based entirely on pieces I pulled from the back of my closet. Lately I've been trying to remix older pieces to see what I can still make work, and what needs to go. I love finding new ways to wear things I've temporarily lost interest in. If you haven't already tried this, it's definitely worth a shot. Best case scenario you find a few new looks, at the very least it may help you decide what to donate. Which we all know is really just code word for: make room for new stuff. Nice try, but I'm waaay ahead of you.

Since all of my pieces are no longer available, I found a few items that are similar below.
Dress: similar HERE & HERE | Utility vest: similar HERE
And because it's just too hot to function, I ditched the vest and threw on a pair of sandals. About two minutes later my hair went up in a top knot. Cheers to 100+ degree weather in "fall."
(I wish you could hear the sarcasm in my voice)

Handbags, Fall 2014

There are so many beautiful bags for Fall 2014, it's hard to narrow it down to the one or two you should add to your collection. As much as I love the bag below (and wear it all the time) it's nice to have a few options. When looking for a new bag, I've found it's easiest to select the type of bag you want first. Then it's just a matter of color, material and price. A few I have my eye on include the easy to wear/goes with everything satchel, a classic cross body, and a 90's inspired backpack. See below for my top pick in each style.

Keep Calm + Sparkle On

If you know me at all, you know I love me some sequins. I would obviously say yes something sequined in Vegas...but I would also agree to wear sequins to, say...breakfast. I completely understand that I may stand alone in my obsession, so I styled a look that offers a good balance. Pairing a chambray button up with sequins is the perfect way to bring down the dressy factor, and make the look very wearable. I hope you enjoy!

Pillow Talk

Finding the right combination for your throw pillows can be a bit of a challenge. It's important to considering color, size, pattern, and texture when picking out the one, or seven, that will work in your space. Personally, I like to change things up a a lot. So for me, a low price tag also plays an important role in my selection process because I never want to feel too committed to any one pillow.
If you are interested in keeping your pillow game strong, see below so you can mix and match with the best of 'em.
I started with a blank canvas. Clear off any pillows that may have come with the couch, or ones you were previously using.
Bring in two pillows that are on opposite ends of the color spectrum, as I've done above. I went with a solid and warm coral color as well as a classic and cool black and white patterned pillow.
From there I added my largest pillow (this fun furry one) to the center. I balanced things out by adding another black and white pillow to the right. I also used a throw with the same colors on the left. This felt closer to complete balance-wise, but I wanted more color...
I needed to add some warmth back in and introduce a third color, so this one in the center seemed like a great option. It matches the coral color I've already used, ties in the gray walls, and offers two other colors to play off of.
This is the final look! I added two new blue tone pillows, one with pattern and one with texture. I'm SO happy with the final result. I think it's just the pop of color and interest this room need.

From left to right:
Black and white throw blanket | Black and white pillow | Blue stripe pillow (Homegoods) | long nubby blue pillow (Homegoods) | White furry pillow cover (not online, from Ikea) | Navy X pillow cover | Black and white aztec pillow cover | Coral pillow (Homegoods)

Pillow inserts:
Large duck feather pillow insert used with Ikea covers. (Only $5.99!)
'16x'16 duck feather pillow insert used with the Ikea aztec print cover.

Note: If you are purchasing pillows from a few different places as I've done, always bring your first purchase along to the next stop. It will be next to impossible to remember the exact shade of blue you needed without a reference on hand. Trust me, this will save you tons of time and make the whole process easier.

T.
