Wishful Thinking | Outerwear Edition

Wishful Thinking

1. Cant' go wrong here! I think out of all the coats I own, my light wash JCrew jean jacket is the most used. I also have a medium wash distressed denim style from Forever21 that was probably under $20. No matter what price range, you can find really stylish/versatile options.

2. This style adds instant bad ass appeal to any ladylike ensemble. I love, love, love layering a tough looking jacket like this over a delicate lace dress.

3. Although there isn't much need for a trench coat in my day to day life, I can appreciate it as a staple in any woman's closet.

4. Surprisingly, this army green color goes with a ton of pieces you already own. I was skeptical until I got one for myself 3 years ago. I opted for a lightweight option with a hood. It's the perfect look with some booties and boyfriend jeans. Definitely a purchase you won't regret making.

5. I've had my eye on this dusty pink color for a while now. Since this is a cropped blazer/coat I can see it being practical, a longer option would feel too formal for this mama.

Shine Bright Like A Diamond

After trying out temporary glitter jewelry tattoos a few weeks ago I was completely hooked. At no surprise to me, Savvy wanted in on the fun too. Luckily, SUO Boutique literally started carrying them the week I began looking for a more affordable option. The best part is, SUO divides the pack into individual sheets for sale. I mean, I love these tats as much as the next girl...but who really needs 4 sheets of jewelry tattoos at almost 30 dollars? I picked these two sheets up for only 8-10 dollars each. A price you don't feel guilty about when jumping on this flashy trend's bandwagon.

Chili + Pumpkin Cornbread

This is the perfect meal for the week of Halloween or really any evening in Fall. I'll be the first to admit it's still a little warm out to fully enjoy chili and cornbread, but the good news is the recipe I make is a crock pot special...so it requires very little time in the kitchen.
Chili Mixture:
1/2 white onion, chopped
1 lb lean ground beef
2 teaspoons chili powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 (16 ounces) can refried beans
1 (15 ounces) can chili beans
*I used Bush's grilling' beans, bourbon and brown sugar
1 (10 ounce) can diced fire roasted tomatoes
1/2 cup tomato sauce

Directions:
Mix all of the ingredients together in the crock pot.
Set on high for 5 hours.

Servings:
6-8
Prep Time:
5 minutes
Total Time:
5 hours (crock pot time)
Trader Joe's knew what they were doing when they started selling a PUMPKIN cornbread mix. Yes, you read that right...Pumpkin cornbread. Simply pick up a box and follow the instructions. I always opt for muffins instead of a traditional loaf, the leftovers make a nice portable snack for the babes.
If you follow this recipe for your own dinner soon, let me know how it turns out!

Patchin' It

It's hard to believe it's Hudson's first Halloween. After missing the party by just one day last year, we were more than ready to show him how it's done. Thanks to our good friends, who also happen to be Savvy's God parents, we all had an amazing night petting zoo animals, riding tractors, and jumping in the bounce house. It was kind of surreal to be honest, standing there looking at all four of our babes in matching outfits. It feels like just yesterday we were dressing up, headed out to party. Now we are the party, and it ended at 9:30.

Flash Back | Halloween

2011
With Halloween around the corner I thought it would be fun to take a quick look back at Savannah over the years. I don't think there is any denying the resemblance between baby Savvy and Hudson boy! Stay tuned tomorrow for Hudson's first trip to the pumpkin patch...

Wishful Thinking | Baubles Edition

Wishful Thinking

Hello & welcome back! So today I'm bringing you a new series titled "wishful thinking," which is basically things I am either inspired by or would love to own. Somehow I just discovered polyvore (the site that helped me create the image above) and I must admit, I'm a little obsessed. I am a visual learner at heart and absolutely love the idea of cataloging mood boards for various projects I'm working on. As you can tell I started off this series with a few pieces that caught my eye in the jewelry department. Below are a few notes on each piece. Santa, I hope you are listening...

1. This is the watch I own, but in rose gold. I haven't been a huge fan of this tone in the past, but recently I have found myself really drawn to it.

2. I love this ring set from Nordstrom! It's a fool proof way to achieve that piled up look, and a great way to ensure it all coordinates together well.

3. What can I say? I'm a sucker for pearls. There is something very classic about pearls, but this ring offers a rocker edge which I love.

4. When I saw this coordinates bangle from Bauble Bar my mind immediately started thinking of all the different locations you could use. The venue for your wedding, the hospital where your babes were born, the address of your first home. The options are endless! This will be on my Christmas list for sure.

5. Talk about fancy. This set would take your favorite sweater and jeans look to the next level this winter. Plus, I love the muted tones and shape.

6. Flash back to first grade when all you wanted in life was a best friend necklace or bracelet? Well this is the grown up version by Alex and Ani...and it's freakin awesome.

Five At The Flea

Flea markets are a fickle business. Depending on when and where you attend, and what you're trying to find, your experience can be a total hit or miss. Having been to quite a few, and decorating half of my house in flea market finds, I consider myself somewhat of a pro. Having said that, I've gathered my top "five at the flea" tips that should help you navigate your next shopping trip.

1. Think about what it could be, not just what it is.
So many pieces you will see at the flea have major potential. It usually just takes a little imagination, and a lot of paint.

2. Come prepared.
Borrow a truck if you don't already have one, and considering throwing a dolly in the back. Have cash on hand as well as measuring tape or paint/fabric swatches.

3. Bring your A game.
The flea is all about negotiating. Don't be afraid to ask for the price you are willing to pay. (Or even slightly less.)

4. Dress comfortably and bring snacks.
I like to rock work out clothes and some kicks. Also, it's often a long hot day so don't forget to wear sunscreen. I'm not even going to talk about the time I wore short overalls and had a nice "V" burn on my back to prove it.

5. Walk away.
At the end of the day be prepared to say no. It can feel so disappointing to leave a piece behind after a long search. Don't let that feeling suck you into a poor purchase. If it's just too much, won't fit in your space, or doesn't work with what you already have at home...wait for the next find. That's the great thing about the flea, there will be an entirely new market full of goods next month.
We quickly realized after walking to the entrance that carrying Hudson was killing my back. (What was I thinking?) So Daddy took over baby bag and baby carrying duty.
Such junk, and yet it made her so happy.
Above area  few of the random and cool things you can expect to see at the flea!

So have you done any flea market flips? Is there a tip I missed that you swear by? I'd love to hear from you in the comments below.

Mash Up

There are so many things wrong about this look, and yet somehow it totally works. The proportions are off, it has conflicting seasons written all over it...but for whatever reason I love it. It's just the sort of outfit I like to run around in. Comfortable, slightly boho, and the hat hides two day old hair. Maybe we can get away with this sort of summer/fall style mash up here? I mean it is almost 90 still, mid way through October. What better excuse do I need? (Don't answer that.)
